About the Audio @ W4LGH

I have always enjoyed listening to a good sounding station.
After playing with all the DSP setting in the FT-1000MP, I
still didn't have the sound I wanted. After going the OverPriced
HEIL route, and NOT sounding as good as the factory Mic, I
decided there had to be something better. Going back to my Broadcast
Engineering days, I knew there was good stuff out there, but at a
very HIGH-COST, WRONG! Enter the world of Behringer Audio.
Studio Quality, at very reasonable costs, much less than HEIL,
W2IHY, and Many others out there.

My Audio starts here with the Behringer B-1 Studio Condenser Mic. The B-1 is an
exceptional high quality mic, with a very flat audio response.

From the B-1 it goes into a Behringer DSP-110 Digital Compressor/Limiter
and programmable Noise Gate.

The Noise gate cuts background noise, the compressor/limiter keeps the audio
at a fixed level, without clipping, which would cause distortion. So the audio
stays distortion free. The DSP-110 also supplies the +48 Phantom voltage to
bias the B-1 Condenser Mic. It supports both Mic level, and line level inputs/outputs.
The line level is fed from the DSP into the Line level input of the
Behringer UB-1002 EQ.

The EQ has 10 input channels, and 2 output channels. Audio goes in on channel 1,
the levels and EQ are custom tailored for my voice characteristics.
The output of channel 1 and 2 are fed into a home brew audio
pad with 2 discreet channels and isolated with 600ohm to 600ohm 1:1 audio transformer.

This audio pad is NOT necessary, but I like to isolate direct connections between different
radios, hence the 1:1 isolation transformers. I also included 2 separate level controls, to set the audio
gain going into the two different radios. The audio is then connected to BOTH the
Yaesu FT-2000 & The Drake TR-7A Transceiver.

All of this may sound complicated & expensive, but its not! Everything can be purchased
at a local music supply house and plugs directly in. And the cost? All of this is LESS than
the price of a HEIL PR-40 mic, and a LOT less than the W2IHY EQ+!!
Here are a couple of Sound bites that were recorded off air of my audio.
#1 is Audio Quality Recorded on-air from a station 1800 miles away
& #2 is an on-air test of the Noise Gate feature.
